Who We Are
Cobourg Christian Network (CCN) is an informal — as in we don’t exist anywhere on paper — collective of church and parachurch leadership, with a long history involving previous similar organizations, some of which served just Cobourg, and others of which involved Evangelical pastors in a ministerial association that served Cobourg, Port Hope and Colborne. Our goal is to participate together in building the Kingdom of God in our part of Northumberland.
Current Participants
Meeting monthly, today’s CCN includes pastors and staff from eight churches, as well as representatives from the chaplaincies of various institutions, and leaders of various parachurch organizations operating in and around Cobourg. Average attendance is smaller, but if everyone on our mailing list were to attend on the same day, there would be 30 of us! See the next section — past any advertising which may appear — for a current list of current participants.
What We Do
The CCN is best known as the official organizer of the annual Good Friday service. However, other projects have included the Habitat for Humanity Faith Build, the Better Together Refugee Sponsorship, and recently, the Truth and Reconciliation event in the town park.
Monthly Meeting
We usually meet in a local church — locations vary — for a $5 lunch and go around the circle sharing what’s new in our respective ministries, and then dig deeper on upcoming projects like the ones listed above. We end each meeting with a short prayer time remembering any needs that have been voiced, and praying for our town and its leaders.
Guest Speakers
Occasionally, guests drop by. A few years ago a representative from In My Back Yard (IMBY) in Hamilton made us aware of the “tiny home” movement before it was as much on the radar of local media or politicians. We recently had a speaker from Mission Canada who is working in the encampment in Peterborough, so we could compare notes with our situation in Cobourg. We also have a representative from Fare Share at most meetings.
How to Arrange a Visit
There isn’t presently a formal chair person, but communications are centralized through the Administrator at Church on the Hill. If you have something vital we need to hear about, or just want to soak in the unity that happens when people of various denominations and ministry interests come together, contact us for details of the upcoming meeting.
Good Friday 2024
NEW! The 2024 Good Friday service took place at Church on the Hill and this year included an observance of Communion/Lord’s Supper in addition to worship, readings and a message. We had a full child-care program available and for the first time the service was live-streamed. Our offering this year went to “What’s For Lunch?” a ministry to area High School students presented weekly at Grace Christian Reformed Church.
